Today is Cycle to Work Day promoted by Environment & Energy of the University of Cambridge. Here a picture of me with my lovely yellow bike and my Enchanted Mesa jumper. Okay you can't see the jumper very well but it was more about the bike than the jumper of course. My lovely colleague Chantal took the picture. Thank you Chantal! Finally, a picture of me in one of my knitted jumpers.
I cycle to work almost every day. Sometimes I walk. I wish more people would go onto their bicycles in Cambridge. There are way too many people in cars about in Cambridge. It stinks and the roads are too full. Most people sit all alone in the cars, of course. My guess is that at least half of those could swing their bums onto their bicycles to commute to work or at least do a car share. My dream for Cambridge is to become a cycle city like Copenhagen and with electric mini busses to book onto to travel between University buildings for those University staff who need to come in by bus, train, well, or car, because they live too far away.
A big drawback is the quality of the roads. I think there are more bumps and potholes on Cambridge's roads than it has inhabitants. If the City Council and the University want to get more people onto bicylces things really need to change on that front. I'm pretty fed up to be shaken like a cocktail every morning and evening. I'm stubborn and cycle anyway, but I can understand if people don't fancy cycling and stick to their cars.
